The storm caught us suddenly in its fierce embrace with the drama and violence of a runaway locomotive. Our choice was to immerse ourselves and ride the energy and electric potency of the storm, or to flee. We decided to dig in and go deeper, at the cost of scratched corneas and lenses, for some lifelong memories and photographs. Isn't that why we do it?
The Storm
I had the pleasure of accompanying two great photographers Jennifer King and Chuck Kimmerle on a recent trip to the Death Valley. The day after I landed, we happened to be in the midst of a sand storm around the mesquite sand dunes. We had an amazing day of photography while getting pummelled by the sand, which took weeks to get out of my equipment, it was all worth it.
